DJ Tina : Hi Dorrn, Congratulations on your recent Album Release Sweet Borderliner.
DJ Tina : Can you tell our audience about Sweet Borderliner such as the highlights of this CD how many song tracks are appearing on it to any challenges to producing this Album?
Jackie: There are 12 tracks on the album and a bonus video clip of an older song called “Mad girl” The biggest challenge for me was to choose the 12 tracks for “Sweet Borderliner”. After the four of us were ready with their votes we had actually 16 songs – far to much for a CD so we started a voting on our website and let the fans make the final disicion.
Bernd: Also we decided to give the fans some extra stuff for their money. The cd is in CD Extra format. That means it behaves like a normal audio cd but when you put it in a computer there is a flash application which lets you hear the songs read the lyrics and let you see the bonus video clip “Mad girl”
DJ Tina : How has the Klaus Lemke film Dancing with Devils inspire your title track Sweet Borderliner?
Jackie: Well, I got in touch with Klaus, ‘cause a friend of mine is a good friend of him and he told me that he was in Hamburg – normally he lives in Munich. So he came up with the idea that we should meet and see what happens. He was working on his film dancing with devils wich can be seen on german tv chanel ZDF next month, so he was very busy and it wasn’t so easy for us to find some time together. But finally we managed to meet up and I played a very small role in his film and we placed one song from our Oversexed album in it. We also made a little bit of musical atmosphere for dancing with devils. To work with Klaus and the whole story of Dancing with devils was very inspiring and that was the reason for me to write “Sweet Borderliner”
Bernd: We also thought that “Sweet Borderliner” is just a really good title for our new album.
DJ Tina : With Mario’s hardcore drum beats, Bernd’s base and Jorn’s mean guitar riffs and Jackie’s powerful seductive vocals its tough to pick a favorite song track but I’m curious which dorrn song tracks are creating a buzz in the media and getting the most airplay on radio currently?
Jackie: I am not quite informed I have to say but as far as I know “See Paris” is doing very well…
DJ Tina : Each song track creates imagery and tells a story who writes your songs and what issues inspire or motivates you for your lyrical content?
Bernd: We found a workflow of producing songs that fits very well to us. I have a little studio where I produce so called layouts. This are songs without vocals. I then give them to Jackie and she composes a melody and makes the lyrics. After that we produce the song to a good level and then play in our rehearsal room change a little bit here and there and then we do the final production for the album.
Jackie: Yes, I write all the lyrics, so the issues are very personally. I actually write about every-day-stuff, about all the things in my head. So normally when I get the feeling that something in me wants to come out and become a new song, I pick one of Bernds layouts that fits into my mood and and let it flow…JJ
DJ Tina : I really dig the mix of rock, punk , industrial and hardcore metal sounds in your tracks who helps record, mix and master all dorrns music production?
Bernd: The recording and mixing is done by ourselves. For the mastering we have some external help by our record label STF-Records or a guy called Eroc.
DJ Tina : Can you tell us about your previous Albums “Oversexed and Underfucked” and “We’re Out”?
Jackie: I guess what you can here when you listen to all of our three albums in the order of its releases, you hear - I would say - a permanent evolution. On “We’re out” it was only Bernd and I and we had some guest musicians playing the stuff live on stage. When “Oversexed And Underfucked” came out we just found Jörn and Mario and on “Sweet Borderliner” we finally on a good way to let all of our influences become a whole new Vision of dorrn…J
Bernd: Next will be a double EP with unplugged and un-“dorrnative”-material.
DJ Tina : How do these Albums differ from your recent release Sweet Borderliner?
Bernd: I think the songs of the current album are more straight and we have more up-tempo songs like “Fighter” and “Nice to know you”.
Jackie: We are more fussy with the details in the Studio. Sometimes we work on a song over and over again, till we are really satisfied with what we’ve got.
DJ Tina : When did you become signed to STF RECORDS?
Jackie: In December 2006.
Bernd: The contact was made by a guy called Keule. He works as an agent, producer and radio host.
DJ Tina : Can you tell us about your video Oversexed and Underfucked which has been creating a buzz in the media?
Jackie: Yes, we’re probably one of the few German rock bands that made it to Las Vegas…J No – seriously. We were asked by the German Curator of the White Square-Gallery in Las Vegas for our okay to show the video for Oversexed And Underfucked as a permanent video installation in the exhibition called “The joy of sex”. You still have the chance to go – till November the Second I guess….J
DJ Tina : Where on location was this video filmed at and who helped in the filming of this video?
Bernd: It was surprising for us that we were asked for this clip. The reason is that we make video clips that serve as an optical background when we play live. We then show these clips via beamer on our shows. The other video clips – so far “We’re out” and “Mad girl” are normal video clips that are shown on tv channels or anywhere else.
DJ Tina : Can you tell us about your video release Mad Girl and We’re out?
Jackie: We placed them as bonus tracks on our CDs. We’re out is on the album “Oversexed And Underfucked” while “Mad girl” is on “Sweet Borderliner”. Do you plan produce any musical videos from your recent Album Sweet Borderliner?
Bernd: Yes – currently we are working on a clip for “Nice to know you” a song of our new album. We started with the shooting on weekend 18th/19th October and will finish hopefully this year. We still have some shootings and the post production will be also very time consuming because of some morphing and other special effects. This is the biggest project so far that we started. We rent a whole tube with four wagons worked with a lot of extras and professional actors and had a lot of other locations where we did the shooting of the clip
DJ Tina : Have you been on any tours since the release of Sweet Borderliner?
Jackie: In the moment we put the prority on just a few live shows and the video shooting as Bernd mentioned before. But we’re working on a tour for next year. Probably we’ll play some of our neighbour countries like Italy or the Netherlands.
Bernd: We are also looking for some festivals to play next summer.
DJ Tina : Do you have any upcoming shows or events and do you sell CD’s and dorrn merchandise at your live performances?
Jackie: We had some shows for the Sweet-Borderliner-Tour. But now this year is almost over and we are trying to concentrate on producing more video stuff for the new shows and practise the new material. And – last but not least – we’re also working on the next album…J Where can international global fans buy Dorrn CD’s and merchandise online through the internet?
Bernd: You can get the whole dorrn stuff on www.dorrn.de like cds, shirts, posters, buttons and – what’s really cool and made by a friend of us – little dorrn trucks J And of course you can download our albums or songs on iTunes, Amazon and every other known portal.
DJ Tina : Before we wrap up our interview do you have any last words?
Jackie: Keep on watching www.dorrn.de for details of the new video and the new shows and everything else that`s coming up….
